So you’re thinking of going on a vacation, but can’t decide on which country or island to visit. Why not do a cruise! Cruises are like a resort hotel, with daily entertainment, plethora of food and best of all multiple destinations, all for the price of one. Today’s ships are being built bigger and better so even if you get motion sickness, chances are you’ll feel minimal rocking. Depending on which cruise you book, you can be docked at a new country every morning, you wake up and have a full day to explore somewhere new. The average cruise length are between 3-14 days. I opted or a 7day cruise which was just the right length. Cruise ships today are now extremely luxurious and have many amenities. You can choose to go in a group or a simple party of two but I think its best enjoyed with a group. If you do decide to go on a cruise here are my top “Do’s & Don’ts”
DO your research. Though there are many cruise lines to choose from be sure to pick the one that best suits your needs and most importantly, docks at the destinations you are interested in seeing. I would suggest , if your budget allows it, to splurge on a room with a balcony. The outdoor space makes the room feel a lot more bigger than it is, plus its great for star gazing.
DON’T stay in your room all day. There is a whole ship to explore with tons of activities to do so go out an explore. I usually start my day early with breakfast at 8am and take advantage of the ships duty-free shopping.
DO get off the ship when its docked at an island. This is the best part of a cruise and depending on how long the ship is docked you would have enough time to check out some local attractions and local cuisine.
DON’T miss the departure time. I cannot stress this enough. The ship waits on NO-ONE, so make sure you plan your day accordingly and maintain great time management. If you somehow miss the ship you would have to catch a flight to next to the ships next destination at your own cost, so make sure you don’t miss that SHIP.
DO attend the captains dinner. Each ship has a different name for it. Some call it “elegant night” others “captains dinner” but essentially this is more a formal dining experience. The ship has many different food options but this was my preferred method of eating each night. And these dinners are included! TIP if you are still hungry after your entree, you can order another entree, or order 2 entree’s the first time you order if you can’t decide.
DON’T eat everything you see. Cruises are known for having an abundance of food 24/7 but that doesn’t mean you need to eat it all. Paste yourself and only eat for sustenance. Try avoid gorging yourself.
