Mexico has become synonyms with Cancun but I’m here to tell you there is so much more this country than the over-populated, touristy, beach-side community and so much to explore. Many of Mexico’s tourist either flock to the sandy beaches or to the lively night life but the rest of us Live for the excursions!!! I am the latter…
My stay in Mexico was in Playa de Carmen in a new Hotel called ” Xcaret Hotel” The best part of this hotel, besides being all inclusive, was that it offered all access to the Xcaret theme parks as well! I mean talk about a bargain. I’m not sure that many visitors know about these parks but they are an absolute MUST when in Mexico. There are a total of 9 parks and the best way of describing it is the Mexican version of 6 flags but so much better!!! This post will be a Guide to some of the parks I visited
Xoximilco ( pronounced so-she-meal-co)
This excursion is a fun party on gondola ride floating along a River nestled in what seem to be a man made forest. Each gondola is hosted by a charismatic, quirky native whose main job seems to be to get you tipsy, dancing and laughing. This was definitely a good way to spend an evening.
XPLOR
If you are looking for adrenaline and adventure then Xplor is definitely for you! Explore this park by zipping during the tree tops or explore the jungle by way of 4-wheelers this park has something for everyone. After working up an appetite stop by the cafeteria style restaurant for great local and American cuisine, at NO EXTRA COST!.
Xcaret
This has to be my favorite park, partly because I love being in the water and this park haD just that. Xcaret is a water themed and eco friendly amusement park tied in with so much More. I chose to swim along the lazy river marveling at all the natural beauty surrounding. If you can’t swim, don’t worry, there are life jackets for all (Mandatory for everyone ) and the majority of the lazy river is walk-able. My bf can’t swim and he was able to navigate it just fine.
Xcaret Park also has an amazing show at night which is the Xcaret Mexico Espectacular and is a show not to be missed. It is held in an indoor Mayan looking stadium and fills up quickly so be sure to get there early. It is truly an amazing show and you can feel the Mexican performer exude with pride to express there culture…Great educational experience as well
These are only 3 of the 9 parks to explore and I hope you get to enjoy as many as you can depending on your length of stay, but no matter which you choose, I guarantee that you will have a blast. I will advise that you pace yourself and expect to spend a full day at each park. As stated earlier, admission to these parks were included with my stay at Xcaret hotel so if you plan to stay at another hotel you will need to check the parks website for ticket prices.
